AASV Position Statement: Porcine Epidemic Virus (PEDV) Elimination

For the long-term success of PEDV elimination, an effective intervention tool (e.g., modified live vaccines, subunit vaccines, vaccines using RNA or DNA technology, antivirals, etc.) is needed to reduce shedding of field virus and/or stimulate immunity. This would reduce the PEDV reservoir that exists in the US postweaned population and therefore eliminate the need for intentional exposure in replacement breeding stock.
